SHOUT-IT-NOW OFFERS COMMUNITY-BASED YOUTH-CENTERED SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH SERVICES AND SUPPORT

Shout-It-Now offers a range of client-centric, youth-focused health services and support, currently focused on sexual and reproductive health, as well as support for survivors of gender-based violence, which we provide through a variety of channels, including mobile clinics and virtual engagement platforms, all operating on our custom-designed technology. Our services are informed by innovative social and behaviour change approaches to effectively engage youth and their parents/guardians to create demand for our health and well-being services, as well as to connect youth to other ecosystem partners for relevant services.

Youth engagement is central to our approach; we see youth as active participants, not merely recipients, in our service delivery. Thus, we employ participatory approaches to ensure that youth are heard, engaged and represented from conceptualization, through to implementation and evaluation of our service delivery, platforms, communication and tools.

At Shout-It-Now, we use social and behaviour change theory to increase the effectiveness of our interventions and guide our actions.

We understand that youth behavior is both shaped by and shapes the social context in which youth live, with interpersonal relationships, communities and society all influencing young people’s health behaviour.

Utilizing the Theory of Planned Behavior framed within the Social Ecological Model, we seek to understand the attitudes, norms, barriers and beliefs of both the youth and the circles of influence around the youth.

This not only allows us to design and deliver our services to optimize impact for longer term behaviour change, but it is also the key driver of our continuous innovation.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

South Africa has the largest HIV epidemic in the world. Numerous factors compound to disproportionally impact adolescent girls and young women in South Africa. Therefore, at Shout-It-Now we work to address the comprehensive health, safety and economic needs of this population.

STAFF

  • All services are provided by staff who come directly from the communities they serve to ensure relevance and a deep understanding of the cultural and social factors influencing our clients.

CLINICAL CAPACITY

  • Our mobile clinics have dedicated spaces for nurses to conduct medical examinations and provide services, as well as private consultation cubicles for clients and healthcare advisors. We also provide private spaces where social workers can confidentially provide support to clients, including survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Mobiles feature air conditioning, toilets, a kitchenette, a private waiting area where educational information is disseminated on TV screens, and are equipped with the necessary appliances to adhere to protocols for blood and medication management, as well as stock control.

TECHNOLOGY

  • Our custom-built tech environment allows for real-time data capturing, accurate client identification, and service history monitoring, all in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
  • We developed a customized tracking model that optimizes our scheduling based on areas requiring services, ensuring efficient service delivery. This live tracking model also prioritizes staff safety by identifying high-risk areas.
  • To ensure continuous service delivery, we have solar power and backup generators that provide uninterrupted power supply and internet access.
